



LEGENDS CLASS OF 2025
NATE HIRSCH
While growing up in Bronx, New York, Nate Hirsch knew he wanted to be a sportscaster. After graduating Dewitt Clinton High School, he attended Indiana State University where he majored in Broadcasting. Nate moved to Statesboro and became station manager at WWNS radio. That began his long association with Georgia Southern University. Starting with basketball, Nate became the play-by-play voice of Eagle sports in 1971. He added baseball to his duties in ’73 and later football to his arsenal. Hirsch would spend 35 years as “The Voice of the Eagles.” He also called local high school football games and was co-host of a local cable TV show. Nate passed away in 2016. He has been inducted into the Georgia Radio Hall of Fame, Georgia Southern Athletic Hall of Fame, and the Statesboro High Sports Hall of Fame.


GEORGE MALOOF
George Maloof was a four sport standout at Marist School in Atlanta, claiming All-State, All-Southern and All-American honors. He went to Georgia Tech to play both football and baseball. In 1951, Maloof rushed for four touchdowns in the Jackets 48-6 win over Georgia and Tech claimed the SEC title with an 11-0-1 record. In baseball, he was named to the All-SEC team twice as a third baseman. Maloof entered the coaching ranks where in 1958, he started the football program at St. Pius X. Over the next 26 seasons, George would post a 168-82-12 record capped by the 1968 State Championship. Maloof passed away in 2009, but “George B. Maloof Stadium'' at St. Pius carries his name today. He’s a member of the very first Georgia High School Football Hall of Fame class.
